Dominant practices, information, and constraints of soil moisture conservation and nutrient management for range pastures in a sedentary grazing system in South-Western Uganda

Range pastures constitute the major source of livestock feeds throughout year in grazing areas Uganda. However, pasture yields have been declining overtime, yet there is limited information on efforts improving productivity through soil moisture conservation and nutrient management. This study assessed management practices used by farmers, sources information, constraints hindering adoption potential range Through simple random sampling, semi-structured questionnaires were administered to 250 farmers five districts South-western Agroforestry was dominant practice (87.6%). Farmers’ own knowledge (49.1%) while lack (67.2%) funds (61.1%) for farmers’ practices. Therefore, this recommends farmer participatory testing adaptation alternative alongside agroforestry, inclusion extension programs production financial incentives boost their capacity invest sustainable pastures.   Key words: Agroforestry, knowledge, pastures, management, sedentary pastoralism.
